Interlude XII - Children of the Mind

In Fuchsia City, gym leader Koga assesses the development of his daughter Janine and a promising psychic orphan named Yuuta. After observing Yuuta effortlessly dispatch wild pokemon, Koga decides he is ready to be initiated into the gym's dark legacy: the hidden role of "Renegades." Koga brings Yuuta and two other initiates to an unmarked facility where a captured, rogue psychic—the true identity of the "Mount Moon Renegade" who attacked Leaf—is being held and tortured for information about his employer. Koga reveals that the official, sanitized narrative of the Pokemon League is a facade to maintain public order and hide the ruthless shadow wars required to protect Kanto. He tasks Yuuta with interrogating the renegade. Yuuta quickly determines that the man genuinely doesn't know who hired him, but extracts a single clue about his target before executing him. Pleased with Yuuta's composure, Koga formally inducts him as a hidden operative for Fuchsia Gym, ordering him to seek out Sabrina for advanced psychic training.
