Red visits the Sakai Ranch to help Leaf, noting that Mr. Sakai is still merely going through the motions of life. Leaf reveals her "secret project": she wants to use a modified sakki (killing intent) program to safely rewrite the conditioning of wild pokemon. By universally removing their aggression toward humans while preserving their natural behaviors, she hopes to safely release them, maintaining the ecosystem while permanently eliminating the threat of wild attacks and rendering the role of trainers obsolete. She plans to build this program using Aiko's secret recordings of Red's sakki projection from the S.S. Anne. Red is stunned by the monumental, world-altering scale of the goal, but excitedly agrees to help her.

Later, Sabrina calls an emergency meeting of her psychic students. She reveals her suspicion that an unknown psychic has achieved a "perfect mental shield"—a fully partitioned mind whose exposed surface thoughts appear completely genuine, making them a perfect liar immune to psychic detection. She tasks her students with replicating or disproving this phenomenon, then departs for an unknown period. Realizing his own partition might be the key, Red attempts to communicate with his unpartitioned "Past Red" by writing notes and toggling his shield. The attempt fails, devolving into an internal argument about priorities and grief avoidance, leaving Red frustrated but determined.

Story lesson

Lessons — Radical vs. Incremental Solutions. Leaf's realization that traditional advocacy will take generations prompts her to seek a radical, systemic solution (reprogramming all wild pokemon) to eliminate the root cause of the conflict, rather than fighting endless incremental battles over the symptoms.
