Interlude XXI - Warnings
A series of ominous news reports highlights growing global instability, culminating in a mass psychic event.
At Silph Co., President Kazue Silph meets with Champion Lance. Lance demands that Silph sell its newly developed "masterball"—capable of capturing legendaries—exclusively to the Indigo League, citing undisclosed existential threats. Silph, adhering strictly to market principles, refuses to limit his profits or distribute the technology based on trust rather than value. In response, Lance sheds his diplomatic pretense and threatens to expose the fact that the League knows Silph developed the technology under legally compromising conditions. Trapped by the Champion's ruthless leveraging of the law, an infuriated Silph is forced to concede.
Online, a group of gamers' chat is interrupted when Kit, a psychic, wakes from a terrifying shared nightmare. He describes a vision of an alien mind and an unown-filled world, accompanied by the clear, overwhelming message: "it is coming."
In a rainy Saffron City, Looker holds a tense, clandestine meeting with Laura Verres. Looker reveals that Dr. Fuji's financial records suggest he has been secretly working for Silph, or another shadow organization, for years—part of a larger pattern of missing or kidnapped researchers across regions. Laura worries for Leaf's safety, while Looker laments the systemic loopholes that allow corrupt Gym Leaders to shield renegade activity simply by withholding reports.
The public panic surrounding the psychic nightmare is inflamed when Elite Agatha gives a television interview. She confirms the authenticity of the shared dream, stating that no human psychic could project a message to entire cities simultaneously. She warns that it is a genuine, unprecedented contact from an alien or god-like entity concerning the unown.
In Sinnoh, Cyrus stands outside the Ruins of Alph, hunting unown with newfound, terrifying purpose. He too experienced the mass nightmare, but rather than fear, he felt awe. Driven by the childhood trauma of losing his brother to a wild attack, Cyrus has long believed that the universe is inherently evil, a cycle of agony and suffering. The Hoenn titan incident showed him that reality could be unmade and remade. Inspired by Wally's use of unown to influence the titans, Cyrus begins capturing the creatures, intending to awaken Sinnoh's creation deities and forge a new, flawless world.
