At Duncan's dojo, Blue struggles to train his abra. Koichi observes and explains that abra naturally lack a fighting instinct and can only grow through "adverse improvement"—meaning they must face a life-and-death struggle and be badly injured without running away to trigger their aggressive growth. Blue realizes this might be true but hesitates; deliberately allowing his pokemon to get hurt would be a PR disaster. Koichi also theorizes that Sabrina might train her pokemon faster by projecting feelings onto them during battle. Blue realizes Red might be capable of this, but decides not to tell him to protect Red from the social backlash of publishing such a controversial technique.
Meanwhile, Tatsumaki bursts into Red's apartment to announce she has discovered how to perceive the "psychokinetic field" independently of telepathy, successfully moving a lamp. This breakthrough validates Red's hypothesis that psychic powers are composed of distinct, separable abilities. During therapy, Dr. Seward helps Red realize that his ultimate goal is social safety—protecting himself and his friends from the fallout when his explosive secrets inevitably leak. To build this safety net, he begins reaching out to other psychics across Indigo.
At the ranch, Leaf wakes up on her birthday feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for the supportive messages she receives. Her friends surprise her with a party, giving her gifts that include a rare pokemon egg from the Oaks and a beautiful evolutionary-stone necklace from Red. The group plays an improv Coordinator game, showing off their pokemon's skills in a relaxed, joyful environment. The peace is abruptly shattered when everyone's phones blare with a high-level emergency alert. To their horror, the alert comes from Cinnabar Island, warning of an attack by an unclassified new species of pokemon.
Lessons — The Miracle Question. Dr. Seward uses the "miracle question" (asking Red to imagine waking up with his problem completely resolved and identifying what the very first noticeable difference would be) to help him bypass his anxiety and concretely identify his core need for social safety.
